Three component model of cosmic ray spectra from 100 GeV up to 100 PeV

چکیده
Aims. A model to describe cosmic ray spectra in the energy region from 10 11 up to 10 17 eV is suggested. It bases on the preposition that Galactic cosmic ray flux is a mixture of fluxes, accelerated by shocks from nova and supernova explosions of different types. Methods. We analyze recent experimental data on cosmic ray spectra obtained in direct measurements above the atmosphere and data obtained with ground EAS arrays. Results. It is shown that the model of three classes of cosmic ray sources describes direct experimental data on cosmic ray elemental spectra and gives a smooth transition from all particle spectrum measured in the direct experiments to all particle spectrum measured in EAS.

متن کاملMuons in IceCube
The IceCube detector allows for the first time a measurement of atmospheric muon and neutrino energy spectra from tens of GeV up to the PeV range. The lepton flux in the highest energy region depends on both the primary cosmic ray composition around the “knee” and the contribution from prompt decays of mostly charmed hadrons produced in air showers. It is demonstrated here that a direct measure...
متن کاملHidden Cosmic-Ray Accelerators as an Origin of TeV-PeV Cosmic Neutrinos.
The latest IceCube data suggest that the all-flavor cosmic neutrino flux may be as large as 10^{-7} GeV cm^{-2} s^{-1} sr^{-1} around 30 TeV. We show that, if sources of the TeV-PeV neutrinos are transparent to γ rays with respect to two-photon annihilation, strong tensions with the isotropic diffuse γ-ray background measured by Fermi are unavoidable, independently of the production mechanism....
متن کاملEnergy spectrum and elemental composition of cosmic rays in the PeV region Recent results and future prospects of the KASCADE experiment
KASCADE (KArlsruhe Shower Core and Array DEtector) is determining flux spectra for different primary mass groups to disentangle the knee feature of the primary cosmic-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectra of the light element groups result in a knee-like bending and a steepening above the knee. The topology of the individual knee positions suggests a rigidity dependence. To proof the rigidity...
متن کاملOVERVIEW ON DIRECT AND INDIRECT MEASUREMENTS OF COSMIC RAYS Some thoughts on galactic cosmic rays and the knee
Cosmic rays (CRs) in the energy range from several GeV up to about 100 PeV are assumed to be mostly of galactic origin. At energies up to several 100 MeV individual isotopes can be identified, e.g. with the ACE/CRIS experiment1, a satellite borne silicon detector telescope. At higher energies, CRs are identified by their charge and the energy measurement becomes an experimental challenge. Vario...
